Mikolaj returns to ACLU. Loretta Mikolaj, a resident of Lakewood, re-joined the ACLU of Ohio staff in July to act as both director of administrative services and director of the Lesbian-Gay Rights Project. She will manage financial matters and rejuvenate the Lesbian-Gay Rights Project, which, among other achievements, in 1990 successfully defended the "Lima 41" bar patrons in Lima, Ohio, who were arrested simply for being in a gay bar.
Mikolaj hopes to see the project become involved with the constitutional issues surrounding discrimination within the military based on sexual orientation, and AIDS testing. The Project has also worked with other organizations, such as the Center and Stonewall-Cleveland, to formulate antidiscrimination ordinances. Loretta was the ACLU's Associate Director, before leaving to serve as the Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects-Cleveland.
